After
a competitive, national search, the University of Alaska
Fairbanks contracted with Alaska-based GDM and
Minnesota-based Hammel, Green and Abrahamson (HGA) to design
the expanded University of Alaska Museum. The GDM/HGA team
brings extraordinary capabilities essential for the creation
of a building that will serve the Museum's threefold mission
of teaching, research, and public service while inspiring
those who visit and work at the Museum.
NATIONAL MUSEUM
EXPERIENCE
The HGA Museum group brings extensive museum design
experience to the team. They have expertise in art museums,
science museums, and natural history museums, as well as
designing museums for cultural and history interpretations.
The emphasis is clearly on accessible interpretation for all
members of the family.
SUB-ARCTIC ENVIRONMENT EXPERIENCE
GDM's principals and key staff average nearly 20 years experience
dealing with arctic and sub arctic environments and their
effects on buildings, equipment, and people. Coffman
Engineers and PDC, Inc. also maintain a long history of
providing mechanical, electrical, civil, and structural
systems design for cold climate applications. The team
members stay on the cutting edge of cold-weather design and
engineering.
REGIONAL EXPERIENCE
The GDM/HGA architectural team brings knowledge of and genuine
appreciation for Alaskan history, place, and process. GDM
has worked on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus and
has been responsible for organizing and producing many of
the region's large, complicated projects.
LABORATORY DESIGN EXPERIENCE
The GDM/HGA team has the required multi-disciplined professional
qualifications and expertise to successfully design and
construct laboratory facilities at the museum. With
laboratory projects in Alaska and Minnesota, the team will
build museum laboratory facilities that will meet the needs
of the present and future.
